Want to liven up the S’more event at your next campout? A quick Pinterest search with the words “S’mores alternative” will blow your mind! Everything from the richest of decadence to the healthy versions all at your fingertips.
Here are the ones that really peaked my interest:
1. Chocolate Chip Cookies + Nutella S’Mores – don’t even be thinking that the cookies will be anything other than soft and chewy.
2. Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter S’Mores – TIL that cookie butter is made with crumbled Biscoff cookies, fat, flour, and sugar. There are certain things in life that one will never get enough of and this is it.
3. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup S’Mores – or any candy for that matter. Next on the list is my second fave: Heath Bars.(I found the previous three on https://sharedappetite.com, my new favorite dude blogger, and he has some additional yummy looking recipes using Speculoos that I will be exploring next!)
4. A Savory S’More – Roasted Tomato and Basil – YES please! Roasted tomatoes over the fire, spreadable cheese like goat or boursin, basil, drizzle of balsamic on top of a savory herb cracker. Found this on www.nestingwithgrace.com and had never even thought of going this direction–brilliant!
5. Toasted Berry S’Mores – I found several with this roasted fruit idea….everything from strawberries to pineapple to apples. Some campers roasted the fruit and then sandwiched that with the marshmallow in traditional fashion on graham crackers. Others dipped the fruit in marshmallow fluff and toasted both on the end of the skewer to eat in one bite, sans cracker. Love!
6. Deep Fried Tortilla S’Mores – I love the idea of salt and sweet with crunch, who doesn’t? What about using those precooked deep fried tortillas that you see in the plastic sleeves in the bread section, or, fry the even smaller street taco size corn or flour tortillas prior to the trip…..then follow any of the ideas from above?
What else have you used to put a twist on S’mores lately? Share in the comments so I can drool and dream!
