If you are like me…..sometimes you get the cart in front of the horse and might already have the wheels turning on your RV purchase without thinking about one very important item: where will I store this thing when we are not camping? Or, perhaps storage is the one road block that is keeping your from making the purchase at all!
- Do you even have space at your current residence?
- Do you live in a n-hood with restrictive covenants?
- Are you in a rental home and this is totally out of the question?
Having recently moved to lake country in NE Oklahoma, I lucked out and we have acreage on hand for parking my rig all day/all year long. And, I had my favorite electrician, aka Mr. Queen Bee, wire a 30 amp receptacle nearby so I can make decisions about shore power or battery storage when needed. We even let family and friends camp in it right at the parking spot.
One important thing that is missing at the Puckett RV Parking Pad? A cover! Rain, snow, sleet and HAIL are battering the Jamboree year round and trust me, I no likey. Santa better bring me a lean-to, and soon. However, I am lucky to have the Jamboree right here and the minute I decide to take off, I just load ‘er up and hit the road.
A few ideas to consider when you are thinking about where to store your RV:
1. Security and what I am comfortable leaving inside while away
2. Will the rig be under a cover of some sort?
3. Is there electric hook up available?
4. Will I need to consider battery storage?
5. Will Mickey Mouse have access while I am away (rodents)?
6. Are my tires on solid surface and how to protect them?
7. Distance to and from my residence
8. Accessibility when I want to get to it
9. Cost
There are loads of options out there–anything from run of the mill storage facilities, dedicated RV storage units, a friend or family member’s property, or your own driveway. I know some RVers that pay a monthly fee to simply park it at a campground for months at a time in the summer season. Then, all they have to do is show up in their regular vehicle and start camping.
I am also a firm believer of putting it out in the universe by simply talking about it with others….you will be amazed with the possibilities and creative ideas. Where do you store your RV when not in use? Would love to hear your ideas in the comments below!
