If you know me, you know that I am a lover of vino and the heavy red varietals are my faves. However, those are a little too “much” when the temps are soaring in summertime, so I have a fresher and bubblier go-to list for this time of year! The theme? Lighter and not too heavy on alcohol content. Something to sip on during the day that might carry over to evening. Reminiscent of the fruits of summer. I am not a super sweet kind of cocktail or wine girl, so these are a nice balance between my two worlds.
My favorite summertime sips:
- Aperol Spritz: If you are looking for lighter alcohol drinks to imbibe on during the day, the Aperol Spritz is one of my faves! Aperol made a huge comeback in summer 2019 and I still can not get enough of it. It’s an orange flavored liqueur that is categorized as an “apertif” which means consumed before the meal to whet your appetite. Aperol, Prosecco, splash of soda and an orange slice served on ice. Super refreshing!
- Aunt Nancy’s Summer Beer: I know where this recipe came from which was my childhood BFF, Tracy. Can not remember who is Aunt Nancy for the life of me, however, we have shared it with friends far and wide! So easy: one 12oz can of frozen limeade like Minute Maid, fill that can up with vodka, 4 beers preferably Mexican. That’s it!
- Pink Senorita: Just made this for a Sisters on the Fly event in May and they were a huge hit! The theme was Cinco de Mayo, so what better than Tequila? Pink lemonade (I used Simply with Raspberry) or grapefruit juice, simple syrup, tequila. Here is a fun recipe from Supermancooks.com.
- Pimm’s Cup: Pimm’s is an old school gin-based digestif (consumed after the meal to help with digestion) that is still the go-to sipper at Wimbledon to this date. A classic recipe might include strawberries, cucumbers, basil leaves and fresh lemon juice. This drink just screams summer and if you have never heard of it, I dare you to order one on the next night out. In the meantime, try this from the modernproper.com.
I hope these give you a kickstart to try something new. What is your favorite summertime sip and do you have a different beverage for the campsite as compared to home? Sound off below!
