The Sisters on the Fly were back in action with the 5th annual “Float Your Boat” luau themed campout and this year they landed at Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees in Grove, Oklahoma! I had never attended this event in the past and the photos looked like a hoot, so I packed my grass skirt and drove a short 40 minutes up the road to see what I could see at the Eagles Landing Resort and Recreation.
This campground is located at the tip of Sailboat Bridge (pictured) on Grand Lake. There are a total of 22 pull-thru sites, 98 lakefront sites and 35 full hook-up sites. Our group took over much of the lakefront sites and even a few ladies stayed in the recently remodeled cabins–darling! They offer 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, and full suites cabins complete with kitchens, wifi, and cable.
As the name implies, this is a resort and close to shopping, restaurants, the casino, and entertainment. If you like being able to have things to do besides camping, this is the place for you!
The campsites on the lakefront were all grass and had a concrete pad next to them where maintenance folks will place a picnic table if you desire. It was a very gentle slope to the water’s edge and we spent plenty of time floating around in the sun on the lake. The resort does not have individual fire rings, however, you can rent one from the facility. They have a few bonfire pits around the campground loaded with wood and ready for use. The lakefront sites had water and electric only, no sewer. There are full hook up sites at the front of the park with no water view. You can also schedule their honeywagon to visit you for $20 in advance or $25 same day service. That was a nice amenity that allows you to check one thing off the departure day list!
And, if you are into water recreation, Grand Lake delivers! Boasting 1366 miles of shoreline, this gem is consistently ranked among the top bass fishing lakes in the country. Eagles Landing has their own boat slips and a ramp, heated fishing docks, fish cleaning station, fishing pond, kayaking, mini golf, pickleball, cornhole, swimming pool, and a gameroom. We used the covered pavilion area for the luau feast and festivities which had a bunch of tables and bench seating.
Rates for full hook ups are $45/night, electric and water only are $35/night, and tents are $25/night with no water or electric. They also allowed for one tent per RV site.
The park itself is very clean and well-maintained. They had a load of rules and regulations that seemed to be stricter than most parks I have visited which initially put a damper on the first day or two. Eventually, everyone settled into their routine and had a good time. My favorite kind of campgrounds are in a more natural setting far away from city life, however, for what we needed at this event and for those who like to camp near the action, Eagles Landing Resort gets two thumbs up!
